Toyota Tundra History
The Toyota Tundra was first introduced in 1999 and released to the market as a 2000 model. It was the first full-size pickup truck from a Japanese automaker that was built in America.
Second Generation
The 2007 to 2021 trucks make up the second generation. Depending on the year, there were three available engine options including a 5.7-liter V8 which produces up to 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. It boasts a towing capacity of approximately 10,000 lbs and a 1,900-lbs payload capacity.
Third Generation
In 2022, the Toyota Tundra was completely redesigned. It’s now powered by a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine which delivers up to 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. A robust hybrid powertrain is also available, which delivers up to 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. The extra power enhances its towing capacity to 12,000 lbs.
TRD Pro
The TRD Pro package was first offered for the 2015 model year. This off-road package ramps up the truck’s off-road prowess. Depending on your model year, it adds options such as 2.5-inch diameter Bilstein remote reservoir shocks, a thick aluminum front skid plate, and a cat-back dual exhaust system.
