Here at MotorWorld | MileOne Autogroup, we know how stressful a car accident can be. Even with the latest safety features found in new Toyota cars, RAM trucks, and everything in between, and even with good driving habits, sometimes you just get unlucky and end up getting in a collision anyway. To protect yourself, your passengers, and your vehicle, here are some things you should do in the event of an accident.

First, no matter how minor a car accident may be, you have to stop. Move your car to a safe area and put it in park, then check yourself and your passengers, if you have any, for injuries. At that point, it's time to call the police to the scene. In some states, this is required by law, but even if it isn't your insurance company is likely to want a police report after you've been in an accident. If someone needs medical attention, let the 911 operator know about this as well.

Then it's time to gather information. Exchange info, like names, addresses, and insurance information, with the other driver. If there are eyewitnesses, get their information as well. If you have your phone with you, use it to take pictures of the damage. This can all help your insurance company later on.

Once the police come and fill out their report, they'll usually tell you that you're free to go. At your earliest convenience, contact your car insurance company and make your claim. Your insurer and the other driver's insurer will do their own investigations and determine what they owe you.
